Term 2 School Holiday Music Workshops - 2022

Last week we held our Term 2 Music Workshops for our lovely students. These were 3 workshops spread over 3 days, with 11 kids attending (aged 6 - 11). The workshops covered the following activities:

Activity 1: 'Moving through the Eras' - a basic introduction to the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century Eras of Music. Each kid was assigned an era, read some information from a worksheet, and extracted important info to a big yellow sticky note. We then listened to a few musical examples, and the kids each picked their favourite era and said why.

Activity 2: 'I Love Rhythm' - we quickly covered quite a few rhythmic concepts (most kids knew them really well already from the lessons), then did a few rhythmic clapping games and 2 rhythmic dictations.

Activity 3: 'Musical Alphabet' - The kids either worked in pairs or in a group, and had to think of a word for every letter of the alphabet that is related to music. They loved this activity!!

Activity 4: 'Musical Bingo' - a crowd favourite, always. I read out music definitions, and if the kids had them on their music boards, they crossed them off. The winner was the kid who got 4 in a row .

The workshops were a lot of fun, and the kids were super well behaved and engaged beautifully with all the activities. When I asked for feedback on how to improve for next time, a few kids said that they should be longer...

I look forward to holding these again in the Term 3 holidays!
